Aimless Prose

How many is a hundred words? What does it look like? Where does it go? When does it stop? How does it feel? How does it sound? Does it resound? Does it abound? Will it be here when I come back? Or will it have moved on to better places and kinder spaces? If that is the case, I have much to learn and plenty from it to gain. For only fools are blind to their mistakes.

Renaissance Woman

I have thought long and hard on the subject and decided that I do want to be a renaissance women, I want to do a little but of it all without having to fit into the norm that everyone wants me too.

While reading lots of posts on Etsy and joining live events in the virtual labs. There is plenty of good advice to go around with 80% of that advice being that you should find one niche and stick with it. I find this hard and limiting. Maybe I want my niche to be that I have a little of everything. This may come back to bite me in the ass but I guess that is just something I will have to deal with when I come to it.

So with that in mind I am going to bring my original Etsy shop -Sweetee- back and mold it together with PK.mmminty. This week and next concludes fall semester after which I will have some free time before Christmas to have some photo shoots (I hope). I know I make a lot of pie crust promises but I hope you will look forward to this as much as I am.

Wonder No More

Wondering where I've been? Maybe? Probably not, but just in case you have... I have been knitting and wining and schooling it up. My main bit of news is that I have sold my camera! Before you say "Oh No!", let me tell you why. The camera I had was good for some point and shoot action or for someone who generally doesn't know much about cameras. It was a point and shoot and I didn't like how limited it was. So I went digging and fell in love with a Canon PowerShot SX20IS that I am stoked about ordering with some of my tax return money. It has 12.1 mega pixels as opposed to the 6.1 mega pixels of the previous. It also has 20x wide angle optical image stabilized zoom. Super excited and looking forward to much better pictures!

In other news I have some cute spring cabled hats ready to be posted once I get my new camera, within the next few weeks. Taking pictures with my phone just wouldn't do them justice. Also a wrap that I finished up for Ravelympics should be ready for some camera loving too.

Spring!

Yay for Spring! The past few days have been just gorgeous. We have had the windows and the screen door open so we get a nice cross breeze through the house. Baby girl has loved it and spent hours in the backyard with bubble makers and digging in the dirt. Which is perfect because i can see most of all the back yard from here at the dining room table while i work on school work.

Today we found this cute little lady. You can't tell much in this picture but I am pretty sure its pregnant. Looking straight down on it, it's belly was about as round as a quarter or a half dollar. Usually they are pretty high strung but she just hung out while we pretty nearly pet her.

I am hoping we can finish out the week with this beautiful weather so once i get caught up on my work i can spend sometime in the yard knitting while the girl plays. Perhaps a picnic is in order?

Not My Tuesday Morning Cup of Tea

Let me preface this with saying that I have never been to a Tuesday Morning before. I remember all those commercials that they ran a couple years ago. They really touted the quality of the store. There wasn't one here until about 6 months ago I think maybe a little longer. I have recently heard 3 people talk about it on separate occasions. So my curiosity was definitely peaked. So Friday on the way home from little girls gymnastics I decided to swing in and check it out.

It was nothing like I was expecting. There was so much stuff packed into that store (which in and of itself was really a large store). There was a wide variety and I did see a few brand names but I was completely turned off by my first impression. Everything was just piled together, there was very little order. It looked more like a garage sale with every shelf filled with whatever would fit. I will admit though I found some yarn and this may be TM's only redeeming quality. There were yarns I had never seen before. These were two lonely skeins of cotton yarn from Chile. Anyone ever worked with these before?

I might have to go back on Tuesday's just to see if they have more yarn. Is that lame?

More Snow! [And Ravelympics]

It is snowing again! This is the 3th snow this year or the 4th if you want to count the last snow day when it snowed in the evening and overnight but didn't really stick. I am going to be honest there are a number of gripers around here but I really love snow. I wish that we got a little more though. This has been a good year for snow, I would rather have a winter of really good snows every few years than get the piddly non-sticking snow every year. This is the view from the front door and here is the view from the kitchen. It was snowing but it just doesn't show to well with this camera.

Speaking of which, I am sizing up my options of new cameras. While there is nothing wrong with this one, as you can see it takes well enough pictures but its only a 6.1mp. Also it's very user friendly especially for someone who doesn't know a lot about cameras or who is just looking for a quick point and shoot. I took 2 years of photography in highschool and loved them but I also obviously learned about the workings of a manual camera. This one allows some setting changes but it doesn't hold the changes, like you have to go through the menu and manually change all the settings at every use if it isn't default. I have my eye on a canon it is another compact camera but it is 14mp and has several fun settings i really want to play with. I think it will be a few more years before I can afford a digital SLR to replace my good ol' canon rebel 2000.

As promised here is a picture of my Ravelympics project. Are you disappointed? Me too, haha. I really wanted to have it finished. My only excuse is that I ran out of yarn and it was a few days before I could go out and buy another skein. As well as being swamped to my eyeballs in schoolwork. I am taking one less class this semester and feel like it's twice as much work! Whats the deal?
[Side note: WHOA it is starting to look like a blizzard out there, I keep looking up to see the snow blowing straight sideways!]
Oh and one other fun project, I saw the Sweet Honey Beret pattern in the Winter '08 issue of Interweave knits I was flipping through a few weeks ago and decided to make one. I am really loving this fluffy honeycomb stitch, I might need to write it into a cowl or leg warmer pattern!
There is more in this frame than I meant for there to be haha.

Momzilla in the Morning

I have come to realize that I am quite a growly bear first thing in the morning, the person who most experiences this is my daughter. Now she could be jumping all over the bed and singing at the top of her lungs and it wouldn't bother me... However when you start touching me [read: laying, rolling, bouncing or otherwise actively engaging my person] or getting in my face asking my something, it only takes about 6 seconds. Is this unreasonable? To not want to me jostled, sat on or spoken to for at least an hour, more like two, after waking? I mean It takes me 20-30 minutes as it is from the time of waking to actually getting out of the bed.

I had more to say but i got sidetracked into making pb&j sandwich butterflies and have since forgotten. I still intend to share my ravelympics project, I need to buy more batteries for the camera to take pictures. I may resort to using my phone which is definitely not an iPhone that takes abnormally prodigious photos (you make me sick).

Inamorata

I'm BACK! Did you miss me? I hope so because I missed you. In honor of returning to all things Peppermint Knits, I made a treasury. It actually came off the list today, I meant to post this previously. I named it Inamorata, I thought the title was pretty self explanatory...

Tomorrow I will hopefully be posting about my Ravelympics project!
